Toshiba's Penryn-based Satellite A300 / P300 uncovered
Look out, here comes yet another duo hopping on the Penryn train, and each of these buggers are sporting a Toshiba logo. Up first is the €999 ($1,480) Satellite A300 -- the apparent successor of the A200 -- which features a 15.4-inch display, a refreshed design, Harman Kardon speakers, built-in fingerprint reader, 1.3-megapixel camera, integrated microphone, up to 2GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive and your choice of a Core 2 Duo T5500 (A300-124) or T8100 (A300-11I). As for the 17-inch P300 (seen after the jump), you can reportedly expect somewhat similar configurations, but sadly, we've no hard details on price or availability for it.

To me all the Toshiba laptops look out dated.
CUBSWILLWIN @ Feb 24th 2008 3:11PM
agreed. They really look like windows 2000 running laptops from 2000. just the glossiness on this one let's a bit of an exception.
dzhiurgis @ Feb 24th 2008 3:24PM
The older Toshiba's were very hard to type, after you jump from regular laptop/keyboard, because there was a huge space in the left, so you can't feel the end of the keyboard.
vdogg89 @ Feb 24th 2008 10:06PM
why is totalfix low ranked? Toshiba laptops are very cheap looking. especially the speakers that stick out like a sore thumb. this lappy is a little better looking than their other ones, but still

I like how my r400 looks. Could just be personal taste.

Needs an HD-DVD drive... ;)
CUBSWILLWIN @ Feb 24th 2008 3:12PM
or as best buy calls them now and days, " DVD upscaling drives" ;)
StrangeBum @ Feb 24th 2008 8:36PM
@CUBSWILLWIN
I noticed that myself the other day. It's pretty damn funny if you ask me, but with the prices so low and getting anywhere from 5-7or8 free HD-DVDs I would almost get one.
Now, the laptop, Toshiba may not always have what it takes in the looks department, but I do love their computers. Quality stuff.
bob e @ Feb 24th 2008 3:16PM

Toshiba laptops suck. I'm on one right now and it sucks. First the LCD went out, then the HDD, and now I am on an ethernet leash because the freakin wireless card went out. It's ridiculous.
phanbouy @ Feb 24th 2008 7:13PM
you must have awesome superpowers to use a laptop without a screen or hard disk drive.
CUBSWILLWIN @ Feb 24th 2008 8:25PM
He's a witch!!! Burn em' Burn em'!

I am typing this post on one right now and worked for a company that used nothing but Toshiba laptops. No major problems here. I think either you are a unlucky few or possibly a bad model/batch.
However... taking them apart is another story, I won't dare do that ever again... what a nightmare!
I think I will be looking at a Lenovo for my next laptop. Use them exclusively at work and they have been rock solid.
Tim @ Feb 24th 2008 6:38PM
Thats a nice looking laptop...
nonamo @ Feb 24th 2008 7:43PM
mmmm... fingerprints galore!
NAKT_1 @ Feb 24th 2008 10:00PM
Oh yay. Yet another laptop....

Looks like I have found the successr to my A100 I am using at the moment. Those of you that don't like Toshiba notebooks, need to stopping licking Steve Jobs' nutsack. I ahve had plenty of Toshiba notebooks in the past & not had one failure. Not to say they don't ever go wrong as I have repaired a number of clients ones (mainly down to their own heavyhandedness or accidental damage) & never had a problem disassembling or reassembling any of them. I must admit it is about time I took the A100 apart & give it an annual spring clean inside.

My Toshiba p25 17 incher from like 4 years ago was in a serious car accident. it flew and smashed at the side. but the whole unit still works perfectly.
I got a Toshiba Qosmio G25 (sexiest computer ever) and the speakers not only sound like a million bucks, they look awesome. also the brightest LCD screen ever. I've dropped this huge laptop from the hieght of a standard coat hanger, and this tank is still livin it.
I have now moved on to an ASUS G1S-X3 (the T7500 version at Best Buy) which got clearenced out for $1049. if it werent for this price, I woulda gotten another toshiba.
happy_penguin @ Feb 26th 2008 12:53AM
I have three Toshiba laptops which I've bought over the years. In my experience they've been fine machines with good support at a good price. I recommend them to everyone.
